First Church is currently accepting financial donations for the 2009 Thanksgiving Dinner. Checks can be mailed to:

For every $1.75 that you donate, a meal will be provided for a needy resident of the near Eastside.

Each year since 1984 the lay people of First FMC have organized a large
Thanksgiving Meal distribution to serve the needs of those in the
neighborhood who would otherwise not be able to afford such a feast.
1600 meals were distributed in 2007 and 1200 in 2008. Recipients can
come and pick up their food from the church to take home, or eat the
meal at the church, or sign-up to have it delivered to their home.
Many volunteers from all over the city and surrounding areas pour into
the little fellowship hall
and prepare turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, fresh
rolls, stuffing, and pies for dessert. Below are some pictures from
